Hi, I’m William Chung!
“What counts is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” Nelson Mandela
I am a senior studying classical piano, composition and theory at the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts Music at Bergen County Academies in Hackensack, NJ. I feel passionate about studying and interpreting classical music because it inspires ecstatic joy and transcends time, age, gender, ideology, and culture. The most enthralling music operates at the deepest layers of emotional memory, generating powerful, multisensory experiences that transform its listeners in unique and unexpected ways.
In conjunction to classical music, volunteering represents the cornerstone of my life-mission to cultivate joyous, conscientious, and united communities both locally and worldwide because our individual experiences are interdependent at the societal level.
To fulfill this mission, I have partnered with strong-minded, socially conscious students to originate the Fort Lee Youth Council, a 501c3 non-profit organization, which has united us with educators, business leaders, and community members. YCFL has organized the Fort Lee ClimaCon and erected a monument to commemorate the plight of “Comfort Women.” As President of YCFL, I have witnessed first-hand the power of determined, collective action at the grass roots level to inspire positive change.
Throughout high school, I have developed wide ranging competencies through interdisciplinary scholarship, critical problem solving and direct, hands-on involvement in tackling contentious social issues.
Thank you for learning more about me, and I look forward to hearing from you!
